MINERALplus STORK GmbH
Slag treatment plant in Zossen
MINERALplus STORK GmbH (MPS) operates a state-of-the-art slag treatment plant in the town of Zossen, in the German federal state of Brandenburg.
Construction work on the treatment plant began in 2014, and since the start of commercial operation in 2015 the facility has been recycling slag and ash from waste to energy plants in the Berlin/Brandenburg region.
The company is jointly managed by STORK Umweltdienste GmbH, Magdeburg and MINERALplus GmbH, Gladbeck, specialist for mineral waste in the EP Power Minerals group.
Besides other slags, the plant will in future mainly treat slags from IKW Rüdersdorf and T.A. Lauta waste to energy plants, thus ensuring their disposal and recycling.

Services
The Zossen plant is equipped with modern, sensor-based sorting technology, enabling it to achieve particularly high added value. Metals are separated from the slag and returned to the economic cycle, and slag remaining after recovery of metal is treated so that it can be used as construction material for landfills.
Four eddy current separators for metal particles of 2 mm to 80 mm size and special separation techniques for recovering unmixed stainless steel are the distinguishing features of this treatment plant.
To protect the environment, the entire plant, including inbound and outbound storage, is housed in a closed building, minimizing the emissions from the plant.
The total capacity of the treatment plant amounts to 150,000 metric tons per year.
